Induction Loops, Hearing loss and Deaf Resources
Induction loop technology can help if you suffer from hearing loss
This Miniloop affiliated website offers information on induction loops technology, hearing loss and offers deaf resources for the
entire community.
The two main types of deafness are Conductive and Sensori-Neural.
Sensori-Neural hearing loss
Sensori-Neural deafness is sometimes called nerve deafness or perceptive deafness.
The effects of this vary greatly since the frequencies lost or damaged determine what
a person hears.
It is also possible to have damage to the auditory nerve leading to the brain from the
inner ear. This prevents the person from correctly interpreting the sounds he or she hears.
Our Miniloop induction loops technology can help alleviate this and help restore the normal
audiology process.
Conductive hearing loss
Conductive deafness arises from any defect or blockage in those parts of the ear which
conduct sound to the inner ear i.e. any defect or blockage in the outer or middle ear.
This type can often be helped or remedied medically or surgically. It is also the type
of deafness that can be most easily helped by induction loops technology.
Unfortunately those suffering from conductive deafness often suffer from that plus some
nerve deafness which complicates the choice of audiology aid. Such deafness is named
Mixed Deafness.
Who are We?
If you have not heard of Miniloop, maybe you've heard better because of us. For the last 6 years,
we've been busy installing induction loops systems up and down the country. In well known
stores like Sainsbury's, Tesco's and Marks and Spencer, as well as banks, building societies,
libraries, hospitals and many other public buildings.
In fact, our systems are installed in over 65% of the UK's High Street retailers. Now,
thousands of hearing impaired people find it easier to shop, bank, visit the doctor
and even listen to the church service on Sunday!
We do more listening than talking...
Since we started in 1996, we have used the hearing loss community as the source of ideas for the
design and development of our products and then as testers of the finished products.
In total, several hundred people have helped to test our equipment in all sorts of places.
Listening to their comments has helped us to improve everything we do.
And to drop some ideas that didn't work. This may sound like common sense, but it is
fundamental to our way of working. The more we listen, the better we get. And the better
we get, the happier you are. Our first product, the Mini Loop system, was designed this
way.
Launch Event! Held at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham.
A number of invited guests heard about our campaign to improve lifestyles
for the deaf community in the West Midlands. Approximately half the
guests met during the last 6 months and the
venue was specially prepared to be friendly for these guests...
